KNOW MORE ABOUT ASHOKA: CONTEMPORARY INDIAN ARTIST

Born in 1964 in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), the vibrant cultural hub of India, Ashoka Sarkar was immersed in the world of art and culture from an early age. Initiated into music, classical dance, and painting during her childhood, she pursued her passion further by graduating in arts from Calcutta University. Under the tutelage of the renowned classical odissi dance maestro Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, Ashoka mastered the art of odissi dance. Additionally, she holds a diploma in textile designing from Delhi University and pursued further studies in art at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi.

In her debut solo exhibition at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, Ashoka showcased her abstract interpretations of nature. Subsequently, in another solo exhibition titled 'Gaze in a Maze' at Triveni Kala Sangam, she explored the portrayal of women protagonists.

As a professional artist, Ashoka has honed her skills through a distinctive painterly style, often portraying her surrogate self in various contexts and postures. Her experiences as the wife of an Army Officer, living in different parts of India due to frequent relocations, have enriched her understanding of life and nature from diverse perspectives.

Based in Delhi, Ashoka has participated in numerous group shows in the city and showcased her works internationally with First Wish Art Gallery in Tbilisi (Georgia), Mumbai, Dubai, Rome, and Telavi (Georgia). Her artworks are housed in esteemed collections such as Delhi Art College, Kanoria House (New Delhi), Hero Honda Factory (Gurgaon), various Army Messes across India, and Telavi History Museum (Telavi, Georgia).

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Ashoka is a respected Art Mentor, sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring artists of all ages through regional academic establishments, institutes, clubs, and residential societies.

Versatile and experimental, Ashoka enjoys exploring various themes and techniques in her work. Her current focus lies on the subject of Architecture and Environment through her project 'Interior and Exterior,' aiming to capture the essence of the world on canvas. As a member of First Wish Art Gallery, she actively contributes to the "MISSION WORLD TOUR EXHIBITION" project, finding inspiration and motivation in the touring exhibitions across 30 countries.
